Computer outage continues to affect AIB credit card payments

Computer outage continues to affect AIB credit card payments

A new computer outage is preventing AIB customers from making credit card payments via credit card terminals. The outage lasted for most of the working day on Thursday.

“AIB Merchant Services continues to investigate the disruption to service of several products and services,” the bank said in a statement this afternoon.

“Our AIB merchant services are experiencing technical issues that may impact merchants’ ability to accept cards and outgoing settlement funds… Progress is being made to fully resolve the issue and services are beginning to be restored.”

Some traders have contacted the Irish Independent to say the outage is affecting their business.

“I have six sites affected at the moment,” one business owner told the Irish Independent.

Several customers and merchants have posted similar stories on social media.

“This is significantly disrupting our operations this morning,” one wrote.

“(Our) activity is currently at a standstill,” wrote another.

Merchant services affect third-party credit card terminals such as Clover, which are popular with small businesses as a way to quickly accept credit card payments.

A bank spokesman said the outage was the result of a “wider European problem”.

“AIB is not experiencing any technical issues today,” the spokesperson said.

“AIB MS, a joint venture with Fiserv, is aware of a technical issue with some processing services that stems from a wider European issue. They are working urgently to resolve the issue and will update customers as soon as possible.”

AIB says updates on the outage will be provided on its merchant services webpage, Aibms.com.

No complaints have been received regarding the outage affecting online credit card payments.
