Meet the Talented Brevard County K9 Deputy Behind Central Florida’s Unique Murals

If you haven’t heard about the unique murals popping up in and around Brevard County, you may be missing out.

Meet Brevard County Sheriff’s Office K9 Corporal Lance Behringer, the deputy behind these artistic creations.

Behringer and his K9 partner, Gator, are often busy tracking down criminals and conducting narcotics investigations. But beyond his law enforcement duties, Behringer has a talent for painting.

“I started drawing as a kid, then I started painting on canvas and now I’m doing large-scale murals,” Behringer said. “It’s a nice break from my regular work, a way to relieve some stress.”

Central High School Principal Heather Smith learned about Behringer’s work through her husband, who also works as an assistant principal. She contacted him, hoping to display his murals at the school.

On his day off from the sheriff’s office, Behringer loaded up his supplies and headed to Central Middle School, where he himself had been a student.

“The last time I was in this office was when I was in school here a while ago,” Behringer said. “I had a chance to paint the mural behind me.”

It took him about 14 hours to complete the mural in the school’s main office, a work that has been embraced by both students and staff.

For Behringer, it’s a way to give back to his community and inspire others to follow their dreams.

“This mural is definitely the most memorable one so far,” he said. “I went to school here, so it means a little bit more to me.”
