Seven sentenced to life in Mathura double murder case

A local court has sentenced seven people involved in a 2017 double murder case to life imprisonment. Two other convicts were sentenced to ten years in prison and fines.

The high-profile case saw a group of armed men storm a jewellery store in Mathura, killing two people and injuring three others. Charges included murder, attempted murder and robbery.

Due to the gravity of the crimes, the court rejected the defence’s arguments for leniency. Government lawyer Chandra Bhan Singh noted that the sentence also came with fines and additional jail time in case of non-payment. One juvenile involved was sent to a juvenile court, while one accused died during the trial.
