Dolton Trustees Meet Without Mayor Henyard, Address Layoffs, Budget Issues

DOLTON, IllinoisTrustees met Thursday night in Dolton to discuss their financial future, but Mayor Tiffany Henyard was not present and the meeting went ahead without her.

The crowd cheered as Trustee Stanley Brown arrived at Dolton Fieldhouse. Brown, who had previously supported Henyard, was the fifth trustee to join the meeting.

“Some residents told me to come to this meeting, some residents told me not to come to this meeting, I’m here for all the residents,” Brown said.

The rescheduled Dolton board meeting came just over a week after Henyard attempted to hold his own meeting, which lacked a quorum.

At that meeting, she announced the appointment of a new village attorney and trustee. Trustee Jason House said the meeting was not official and the appointments had not been approved.

The directors discussed the budget and potential layoffs.

“That could include another round of layoffs. If that happens, we’ll do them all at once,” House said.

House also noted that the village must seek a new bank after Henyard allegedly refused to sign numerous checks totaling millions of dollars.

House stepped in to sign them, but said Henyard disapproved of them.

“The mayor’s office was disappointed that they contacted our bank and claimed there were forged signatures on the bank account. So the bank basically said we’re not playing this game, we’ve had enough and gave us 60 days notice,” House said.

The council also approved a temporary moratorium on travel expense reimbursements for elected officials and employees, following accusations against Henyard of misuse of village funds.

We reached out to Henyard’s attorney for comment but have not received a response.
