Second man charged in fatal Cuba Place shooting

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A man scheduled to be released from prison Friday will remain behind bars, charged in the deadly shooting on Cuba Place near Joseph Avenue.

Timothy Brooks, 20, is the second person charged with the second-degree murder of James Jackson Jr., 39. He was shot in his car, which crashed into a pole, on Aug. 30. Brooks was arrested Sunday in connection with an armed robbery on Upper Falls Boulevard, but before he was released, police identified him as a murder suspect.

According to a criminal complaint, Brooks was with Raphael Marquez, 17, during an attempted robbery, during which Jackson was killed. Brooks will be arraigned in Rochester District Court on Saturday.

Marquez was arrested Monday and taken to the Monroe County Children’s Center.
