Georgia Bulldogs defensive back Daniel Harris was arrested Thursday for reckless driving, becoming the latest player to get into trouble with law enforcement.

Harris was accused of driving 106 mph. He was arrested by Athens-Clarke County police and charged with five misdemeanors, according to online records. He was released Thursday night on a total bond of $50.

Other charges he was also charged with include failing to have proof of insurance, driving an unregistered vehicle, failing to wear a seat belt and illegal window tinting.

Harris’ arrest came less than 48 hours before Georgia was scheduled to play Kentucky.

He played in six games as a freshman, spending time as a backup in the Bulldogs’ defensive secondary and on special teams. He had four tackles in the first two games of this season.

Since the 2022-23 season, when they won the national championship, some players in the Georgia football program have been charged with driving violations.

Georgia head coach Kirby Smart acknowledged struggling to motivate his players to drive safely as he tried to stress the importance of the issue following the crash that killed a player and a recruiting staff member after the team celebrated a national title in January 2023.

Smart did not reveal the specific punishment his players will receive. Past history indicates Harris will not play against the Wildcats. Running back Trevor Etienne did not play in the season-opening win after being arrested in the offseason.

“We don’t tolerate incidents that happen off the field,” Smart said this summer at SEC Media Days. “It’s very unfortunate. ‘Disappointing,’ I think is the best word.”
