Arsenal fans furious after Liverpool star avoids red card for incident similar to Declan Rice’s dismissal

Baffled Arsenal fans were left wondering ‘where is the letter of the law now’ as Dominik Szoboszlai avoided a red card against Nottingham Forest.

Gunners fans were left furious when midfielder Declan Rice received a second yellow card in their clash against Brighton before the international break, where they ended up drawing 1-1 having been leading when the incident occurred.

Rice, already cautioned, was deemed to have kicked the ball as Joel Veltman attempted to take a free kick.

As a result, Rice was ordered off the pitch – much to his surprise – and the England international later said he had “touched the outside of his boot”.

Many who believe Rice was rightly fired have pointed out that officials followed “the letter of the law.”

The furious Gooners then exploded, with Bukayo Saka and Mikel Arteta joining in after watching a replay of a game earlier in the match, where Brighton striker Joao Pedro avoided a yellow card for exactly the same thing.

And now Arsenal fans have spotted a moment in another Premier League match which saw a different star not punished in the same way for what they believe was a ‘worse’ incident.

Liverpool lost 1-0 to Nottingham Forest on Saturday, and as added time ticked away at Anfield, Szoboszlai fouled goalscorer Callum Hudson-Odoi.

Already cautioned, the Hungarian kicked the ball across the field as the referee whistled for a foul.

However, he didn’t get the same treatment as Rice, although he was arguably much more determined to push the ball away and waste time.

The match continued without him being reported in the referee’s book, allowing him to avoid a red card.

And Arsenal fans are not impressed.

One X fan wrote: “How does Szoboszlai get away with Rice getting a yellow card? This is BS!!!”

“This is 15 times worse than what Rice did, man,” said a second. “Where is the letter of the law for Szoboszlai?”

A third wrote: “This is amazing. Szoboszlai is yellow carded and kicks the ball across the pitch after the referee clearly called a foul.

“No second yellow card. Rice was sent off for less than that.”

Arsenal will be without Rice for the north London derby against rivals Tottenham on Sunday due to his red card, while he is serving a one-match suspension.
