MBBS course in Chhattisgarh to be offered in Hindi too, announces CM Vishnu Deo Sai

Raipur: MBBS course in Chhattisgarh will be offered in Hindi medium from the current academic session, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai said on Saturday.

Addressing reporters at his residence on the occasion of ‘Hindi Diwas’, Sai said his government was happy to implement Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of imparting medical education in Hindi which he had expressed at a rally in Uttar Pradesh in 2022.

“Our government has taken an important decision regarding Hindi Diwas. MBBS course will now also be taught in Hindi. Hindi books will be introduced from the first year from this session (2024-25). The Health Ministry has been entrusted with the responsibility of arranging books and study material,” he said.

The move is part of efforts to “change our education policy at all levels from the old imperialist education policy of Macaulay”, he said, adding that the National Education Policy had been fully implemented in Chhattisgarh.

“This will benefit students from rural areas as they mostly come from Hindi-medium schools and face difficulties in medical classes despite their talent due to the use of English language. Studying in Hindi will strengthen their foundation, help them develop a deep understanding of the subject and make them good doctors,” Sai said.

Hindi Diwas commemorates the historic decision taken by the Constituent Assembly on 14 September 1949 to designate Hindi, written in the Devanagari script, as the official language of the Indian Union.
