SpiceJet faces backlash after cancelling flight minutes before boarding

New Delhi: Major chaos erupted at the Delhi airport on Saturday night when passengers of a SpiceJet flight protested following the abrupt cancellation of their flight just five minutes before boarding. Flight SG 495, which was scheduled to fly from Delhi to Darbhanga (Bihar), was cancelled without prior notice, leaving passengers frustrated.

Passengers, furious over the lack of communication and immediate solutions, clashed with airline officials chanting “SpiceJet Murdabad, Murdabad”. The incident, captured in videos that quickly spread on social media, is a testament to the passengers’ outrage over the sudden cancellation and the airline’s failure to provide satisfactory solutions.

The incident is part of a growing trend of discontent with SpiceJet, as evidenced by several similar complaints that have surfaced online. In a video, user Amal Kumaran describes a separate incident involving a flight with 130 passengers that was delayed. Kumaran said that despite the delay, the airline did not offer refunds or other options and that it took two days to reach Mumbai.

Other passengers expressed frustration with SpiceJet’s service. One user recounted a delay of over eight hours, criticising the airline for offering only a complimentary meal as compensation. Another passenger said he had to take a train because his flight to Ladakh was rescheduled without prior notice.

Critics have expressed concern about the airline’s frequent flight cancellations, lack of timely communication and inadequate customer service.

“Please do something to get rid of SPICE JET services. No timing, frequent flight cancellations, no prior information. In fact, it is degrading the standards of civil aviation,” wrote one user.

The complaint trend suggests systemic issues in SpiceJet’s operational and customer service protocols, raising questions about the airline’s ability to effectively manage disruptions.
