Katie Bliss, Editor

Welcome to the September issue of Metropolitan Airport News. While it’s still technically summer, it seems we’re in for a welcome change of season for many. Those crisp, cool mornings and warm afternoons make this my favorite time of year. Most of us are wrapping up our vacations, sending the kids back to school, or heading back to school ourselves, all while trying to enjoy these last few days of summer. Enjoy them while you can; I’m sure we’ll be discussing snow events in the all too near future.

This month’s issue features a fascinating history as well as a modern take on drones. Originally developed and used in wartime, today’s applications are proving useful in markets we never anticipated. We’re excited to take you deeper into Beverly Holdera contributor to Metropolitan Airport News and an FAA-certified drone pilot. Beverly is often at JFK Airport, documenting the construction progress with her drones. Beverly is a Queens resident who took risks and it paid off. It reminds us that sometimes we have to be uncomfortable and think outside the box. Believe in yourself and connect with like-minded people, always stay curious and trust your instincts even if you can’t imagine how the story ends.

Fall is a busy time for events at airports. There are many networking events and “Meet The Prime” events where local opportunities are shared with the business community. Always stay up to date with the Metropolitan Airport News Calendar. If you have an event you would like to include, let us know. This calendar is the live calendar for the airport community. Check back often for events that interest you.

This September marks the 23rd anniversary of 9/11. Permanent 9/11 memorials have been erected at JFK, LGA, and EWR. Solemn commemoration ceremonies will be held at these locations and in our local communities. Even if you don’t attend a memorial, I’m sure you’ll take a moment to reflect on where you were that fateful day. As a country, we remember the horror of all the lives lost; we can only imagine what families have endured these past 23 years without their loved ones; we thank and respect the brave first responders and countless service members who have protected us since that day. But most importantly, together, united as Americans, we will never forget.

I hope you enjoy this issue. If you would like to contact us to offer ideas, share events or simply introduce yourself, please email [email protected]. We look forward to hearing from you.

I’ll see you at the airports!
