The Malta Kickboxing Nationals 2024, held at Monte Kristo in Ħal Farruġ, ended with great enthusiasm, showcasing the best of local talent.

Organised by the Malta Kickboxing Association (MKBA), the event was a pivotal moment for Maltese kickboxing as the national team was formed for the upcoming ISKA (International Sports Karate & Kickboxing Association) World Championships in Vienna, scheduled for October.

The National Championships brought together fighters from eleven different local kickboxing clubs, representing different age groups and categories.

The night was filled with electrifying fights, and the event concluded with 28 fighters winning their respective divisions, earning their spot on the national team.

In addition to the thrilling domestic fights, the event featured three special matches that attracted special attention. Two of them were for the ISKA AMA K-1 European belts.

Malta’s Emma Xuereb of Team Noel won the women’s bout against Harnafi of Team France. In the men’s bout, Faris Luković of Team Malta won the title against Joseph of Team Great Britain.

The highlight of the evening was the fight for the WBC Mediterranean AMA title belt, where Maltese fighter Adam Lamouz, also from Team Noel, took the victory over Luigi Merenda from Team Italy.

Special mention goes to Mr. Paul Hennesey, President of ISKA Europe, who was present to present the two ISKA titles, and to Mr. Lluis Llorett, Supervisor of the World Boxing Council (WBC), who presented the WBC Mediterranean AMA Muay Thai title belt.

Mr Paul Nicholls, ISKA’s European Rules Director, was also present, supervising the judging and refereeing.

With the national team now constituted, the MKBA, led by President Isaac Chetcuti and supported by dedicated coaches, will embark on an intensive training programme.

The goal of these training camps is to sharpen the fighters’ skills, prepare them tactically and build their confidence when they face international competitors at the ISKA World Championships.

Finally, the MKBA Committee and President Chetcuti expressed their sincere thanks to the Gladiators promotion team, all the contributors and the incredible audience that came out to support the fighters, helping to make this event a memorable success.
