Tom Brady admits he can’t repeat what was said in Beckham’s message | Football | Sport

Tom Brady joked that David Beckham taught him some unsavoury football chants during Birmingham City’s 3-1 win over Wrexham. The NFL legend – who is a minority shareholder in Birmingham – travelled to St Andrew’s on Monday to watch the League One clash alongside football icon Beckham.

The match was billed as a celebrity battle, as Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney were also Wrexham owners. This meant there were plenty of celebrities in the stands, including Beckham, who was Brady’s guest and sat next to the New England Patriots icon.

The former Manchester United and Real Madrid midfielder took it upon himself to introduce Brady to a multitude of football chants, teaching him the tradition of singing songs at football matches. Brady, 47, thanked Beckham on Instagram for taking him under his wing, but didn’t elaborate on exactly what the Englishman taught him.

Posting a photo of the couple smiling after the game, Brady wrote in the caption: “What a night in BIRMINGHAM, thanks for teaching me how to sing at a football game @davidbeckham I can’t repeat most of what was said (laughing emoji).”

It was Brady who came out on top against his star opponents as Birmingham beat the newly-promoted Welsh side 3-1. The goals came from Jay Stansfield, League One’s record signing for £15m, and Tomoki Iwata, who scored for the first time.

The emphatic victory saw them maintain their unbeaten start to the season and move up to second in the table, level on points with Wrexham but with a game in hand. It follows a disappointing campaign last season which saw them relegated to the third tier of English football for the first time since the 1994/95 season, prompting significant investment over the summer.

Chairman Tom Wagner – who led the club’s 2023 takeover through US-based Knighthead Capital Management – has big ambitions and has splashed out £30m on signings, half of which went to former Fulham striker Jay Stansfield, who spent last season on loan at St Andrews.
