Four people charged with murder in connection with August death

Four people are charged with capital murder after a man was found dead in far northeast Dallas just over a month ago, police said Wednesday.

According to a Dallas police news release, police responded to a call for service around 11:45 a.m. on Aug. 11 and found Shaun Michael Smith, 48, dead in the 11500 block of Plano Road.

According to police, Byron Louis Nelson, 56, was arrested Tuesday by the Marshals Service and is currently in the Gregg County Jail in East Texas. Three others, Jared Collin Russell, 27, Deanna Marie Palmer, 23, and Marissa Krystin Mitchell, 36, were arrested in late August and are currently being held in the Dallas County Jail, police said.

All four are charged with capital murder, according to jail records. Nelson is being held on $1.14 million bail. Russell has not set a bail amount, while Mitchell is being held on $1 million bail and Palmer is being held on $250,000 bail.

Police have not said how Smith was killed. According to Dallas County medical records, Smith died at 7:50 a.m., nearly four hours before he was found by police.
