Parly set to hear DA’s motion rejecting Eskom electricity tariff proposal hike

JOHANNESBURG – Parliament is set to hear the Democratic Alliance’s (DA)’s motion on Thursday rejecting Eskom’s proposal for yet another electricity tariff increase.

The power utility is seeking a 36% hike for its direct customers and a 40% hike for its municipal consumers in the upcoming financial year.

On Wednesday, the DA held picks to voice its opposition to Eskom’s request.

“I think Eskom can do a lot more to cut costs. It’s mismanagement and corruption that have led to this mammoth proposed price increase,” said the DA’s David Farquharson.

“If we got money back from the people who stole money, the poor taxpayers wouldn’t have to pay this exorbitant bill. It’s unfair and it’s ridiculous.”
