Kellogg’s Diner Reopens in Williamsburg With New Owners, New Menu, Same Charm • Brooklyn Paper

The historic Kellogg’s Diner is back with new owners, a new menu and plenty of nods to its 100-plus year history in Williamsburg.

Nearly a year after closing for renovations, the restaurant will reopen on September 20 under the direction of restaurateur Louis Skibar, designer Nico Arze and chef Jackie Carnesi.

While the exterior of the restaurant is the same as always, with its shiny silver panels and bright neon lights, the interior has changed a lot. The new menu features many of the restaurant’s classics, but with a twist inspired by Carnesi’s Texas home.

The all-day breakfast has been revamped with dishes like Rajas omelet with poblano peppers and green chile cream; guajillo-braised short rib hash with sweet potato, chipotle sauce and cilantro; and fried Texas toast coated in cornflakes and topped with syrup, whipped cream cheese and homemade seasonal jam.

The extensive menu also features items like Chipotle Honey Chicken Wings, Tex-Mex Enchiladas and a host of sides like onion rings, grits, biscuits and more.

New to Kellogg’s are cocktails crafted by bar director Chris Amirault, including a Cosmopolitan with cherry blossom sake and grenadine and a s’mores-inspired Old Fashioned with bourbon, oolong tea, cinnamon cordial and a toasted marshmallow.

The new menu comes with a new design: Arze, working with designer Matthew Maddy — who has designed Brooklyn restaurants including Public Records and Celestine — modernized the nearly 100-year-old interior with warm lighting and lots of mirrors and stainless steel.

The restaurant’s classic features are still there: the counter lined with stools and the booths where actor Adam Driver commented on his “good soup” in a meme-heavy episode of “Girls.”

After September 20, Kellogg’s Diner will be open daily from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., but there are plans to expand to 24/7 in the near future. EaterArze is currently building a private event space, backyard and rooftop terrace that will eventually have its own menu and name.

The Metropolitan Avenue restaurant has opened for sale last spring after former owner Irene Siderakis filed for bankruptcy. Siderakis, who took over the restaurant after her husband Chris died, said Brooklyn Journal In 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic had dealt the company a severe blow and it did not think it would be able to recover.

Siderakis initially filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy to try to keep the restaurant afloat, but eventually filed for Chapter 11. The restaurant was sold at auction last summer, and Skibar announced its plans to review it a few months later.
