The Albert Lea Community Theatre announced this week that auditions for Irving Berlin’s “White Christmas” will be held Sept. 28 and 29 at the Marion Ross Performing Arts Center, 147 N. Broadway, in Albert Lea. Saturday auditions will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Sunday auditions will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

The story centers on veterans Bob Wallace and Phil Davis, who found success singing and dancing after World War II. With the idea of a love story in mind, the pair follow a duo of beautiful singing sisters on their way to their Christmas show at a Vermont lodge, which happens to be owned by Bob and Phil’s former Army commander. With a dazzling soundtrack featuring well-known standards including “Blue Skies,” “I Love a Piano,” “How Deep is the Ocean” and the timeless title song, White Christmas is an uplifting and wholesome musical that will delight audiences of all ages.

Under the direction of Gordy Handeland, eight performances are scheduled from December 5 to 14. Auditioners must be prepared to sing and read the text. There are roles for adults ages 18 to 80 and one role for a young girl ages 8 to 14. Rehearsals will be scheduled on weekdays starting in mid-October, with some weekend appearances closer to the performance dates.
