FedEx truck catches fire on I-44 in Burkburnett

BURKBURNETT, Texas (KAUZ) – First responders investigated after a FedEx truck caught fire on I-44 Thursday night.

The incident occurred on the southbound interstates near the intersection of Sheppard Road and I-44. After the FedEx truck caught fire, parts of the surrounding grass near the interstate lanes also caught fire.

The Burkburnett Police Department said I-44 was closed in both directions for nearly an hour starting around 6 p.m. on Sept. 19.

First responders from the Burkburnett Fire Department and the Friberg-Cooper Volunteer Fire Department were able to extinguish the flames within that hour.

The highway is now open again, but first responders are still investigating the cause of the fire. The BPD’s preliminary report states that the fire started from something under the hood of the truck, and eventually spread throughout the vehicle.

No injuries were reported in the incident.

FedEx Media Relations released the following statement regarding the incident.

“Safety is a top priority at FedEx and we are pleased that the driver involved is safe and sound following this incident. We extend our thanks to the local authorities who responded and extinguished the fire.”
