Man accused of murder in ex-wife’s Anderson County home

ANDERSON COUNTY, Texas (KLTV) – A man has been arrested for murder after a shooting took place in a home near Palestine.

At about midnight on Sept. 7, Anderson County deputies were called to a report of a shooting on ACR 102, according to an affidavit.

When authorities arrived, they spoke to a woman who said she heard someone open the door of her home and then saw her ex-husband, Andres Henry Mendez Becerra, walk in. They began to argue, she said, which woke up another man in the house, Manuel Alexis Vallejo Garza.

When Garza appeared, Mendez Becerra “stuck his arm out” and fired about five rounds, the affidavit says. Garza fell to the ground, and the woman called 911 as Mendez Becerra ran from the scene.

Authorities said three children were also in the home at the time of the shooting, with two juveniles outside. The two outsiders witnessed Mendez Becerra arriving and said they heard “what sounded like someone cocking a firearm,” the document says.

Mendez Becerra has been charged with murder and was booked into the Anderson County Jail on Sept. 12, with bond set at $1 million.
