Efforts are on to arrest the accused. Sub-inspector Alok Kumar De has been appointed as the investigating officer in this case.”

Habibur Rahman is the former president of Dhamrai Government College Chhatra League.

He was arrested early this morning (September 20) during a raid on his house in Mokamtola area of Dhamrai Municipality.

The accused include Md Ahsan Labib, a student of the 49th batch of the Department of Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering; Raju Ahmed, a student of the 45th batch of the Department of Government and Politics; Md Mahmudul Hasan Raihan, a student of the 50th batch of the Department of English; Jubayer Ahmed, a student of the 44th batch of the Department of History; Hamidullah Salman, a student of the 49th batch of the Department of English; Md Atikuzzaman, a student of the 49th batch of the Department of Management Studies; Sohag Mia, a student of the 47th batch of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering; and Mohammad Rajan Mia, a student of the 46th batch of the Department of Government and Politics.

The complaint states that on September 18 at around 5:50 pm, Shamim Molla, a former student of the 39th batch of the history department, was assaulted near the Prantik Gate of the university by a group of individuals.

After receiving the news, the university invigilator and the invigilator’s team rushed to the scene and rescued Shamim, who was injured, taking him to the invigilator’s office for safety.

The complaint adds that while the invigilator was communicating with the university administration and the Ashulia police, some individuals forcibly took Shamim to the security office without informing the invigilator’s team.

Upon learning of this, the supervisor went to the security office, dispersed the crowd and locked the retractable barrier to secure the area. He then asked the police to send a team and returned to his office to communicate with the authorities.

However, the complaint alleges that a group of individuals stormed into the security office and assaulted Shamim again. Despite efforts by the surveillance team and security officers to stop them, Shamim was seriously injured.

When the police team arrived around 7:30 pm, they found that Shamim had several previous cases filed against him at Ashulia police station.

The surveillance team and security officers then escorted Shamim to a police vehicle, but his condition deteriorated on the way to Ashulia police station. He was rushed to Gonoshasthaya Samaj Vittik University Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.
