Pollster Reveals ‘Dog Whistle’ in Sarah Huckabee Sanders’ Attack on Kamala Harris

Belcher, speaking to MSNBC’s Nicolle Wallace on Thursday, said he agreed with all of the criticism that has been leveled at Sanders and then delved into “another dimension” of the comment that he called a racist dog whistle.

“Listen, as a child of the South, someone who was born and raised in the South, and to hear a deeply Southern governor utter that word ‘humble,’ it smacks of a racial cliché that I think is very familiar, and the key word being ‘humble,’” said Belcher, who worked on both of former President Barack Obama’s campaigns.

“Because it’s always been about ‘you arrogant black people’ and ‘you need to know your roots,’” he continued. “That’s a dimension that I think they gravitate toward, and they constantly gravitate toward, and Vice President Harris is an ‘arrogant black woman who doesn’t know her place, and she needs to be humble.’ That’s how I connect the dots on all of this.”

“I put it in the context of their penchant for racial aversion and resentment politics, and it’s absolutely a dog whistle, a historical dog whistle when it comes to black people not being humble and not knowing their place,” Belcher added.

Wallace agreed that was “the common thread” of what Sanders was talking about.
