Golden Retriever selected by Cat Distribution System, and he’s ready for it

A golden retriever named Tristan has melted hearts on social media after a video of him rescuing a tiny kitten he found in the yard went viral.

The heartwarming clip, shared on TikTok in July by its owner under the username @alywiththedogs, shows the excited pup gently grooming the tiny kitten as its owner takes it for a bath and warms up.

“Why is Tristan so excited? He found a baby!” the text from the stopover shared with the clip explains. “He heard it yesterday and has been trying to tell me ever since. We finally spotted the little guy hiding in the grass near our shed.”

“None of the other dogs care, but Tristan is desperate to help. So sweet. I was hoping mom would come get him, but after 12 hours, no sign of her and it started raining. Time to go inside and warm up. Dry off and clean up. He’ll have formula once he’s warmed up and rested. Looks like we’ve been chosen by the cat distribution system.”

“Tristan was so mad at me for not listening to him!” read the caption of the now-viral video.

The Cat Distribution System refers to the popular and tongue-in-cheek concept that the universe chooses a cat for you when you are ready, in this case using Tristan as a conduit to obtain that cat.

Although they are usually portrayed as mortal enemies, the truth is that cats and dogs can not only live together peacefully, they can even become the best of friends.

A 2020 study by Italian scientists published in the journal PLOS ONEproved that the two can easily coexist without too much conflict.

Data presented in the study show that more than 64% of cats and dogs living together also played together; 58% chased each other and 41% fought. Nearly two-thirds of pets sometimes “ambushed” each other.

Additionally, cats are more likely to ignore dogs than the other way around: 42% of cats ignore canines and 28% of dogs avoid them. Cats are also more likely to attack dogs than the other way around.

The video quickly went viral on social media, attracting viewers from all over TikTok. It has so far received over 336,500 views and 74,800 likes on the platform.

One user, Julie Ashley Plockot, commented: “Tristan was chosen and he understood the mission.”

Demontoaster said: “The tiny little claws, what an amazing dog too, oh my.”

NA0MI7O2 added: “Tristan became a mom today.”
