Houston police arrest multiple suspects in shooting incident involving police officer

HOUSTON, Texas (KWTX) – Houston police have arrested three suspects after an officer was shot at approximately 9:50 am on Sept. 17, a City of Houston press release claims.

The shooter Raymond Perez, 35, is charged with aggravated assault against a public servant, aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon and unlawful carrying of a weapon.

The other two suspects, Michael Perez, 38, and Brian A. Garcia Chavez, 18, are being charged with aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon.

According to police, officers responded to an in-progress home invasion located in the 7100 block of Alderney Drive. Upon arrival, officers confronted two of the suspects inside the home. As one of the suspects was being taken into custody, later identified as Michael Perez, the other allegedly emerged from a back room of the house and began shooting at officers before fleeing the scene on foot. The third suspect, who was waiting inside a vehicle, also fled the scene.

During the shooting, officer S. Durfee was shot in the leg and was later taken to Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center for treatment.

The second suspect in the house, identified to be Raymond Perez, was found about a block away from the scene and was taken into custody without incident. The third suspect, identified as Chavez, was found hours later in the 5800 block of Hollister Road and was also taken into custody without incident.

A further investigation is being conducted by the Houston Police Department Special Investigations Unit, the Internal Affairs Division and the Harris County District Attorney’s Office as a precaution with officer-involved shooting incidents occurring within the Houston city limits.
