‘Everything is on track’: Jimmy Barnes announces return to rehearsals with Cold Chisel after health triumph

Rock legend Jimmy Barnes has announced his return to rehearsals with Cold Chisel following his recent hospital stay.

The Cold Chisel singer, 68, spent six weeks in hospital with a central catheter inserted peripherally into his arm, delivering the singer much-needed antibiotics after a series of health problems.

The Scottish-born musician revealed his nearly two-month ordeal to fans on Instagram, also sharing the good news that he is now able to resume rehearsals ahead of the band’s October and November shows in Australia.

Barnes posted a photo of himself, looking elated, with a bandage on his arm, standing in front of a blackboard that appeared to have the band’s upcoming tour dates written on it, with a strangely blurred line.

The 68-year-old rock legend recently underwent emergency hip surgery after suffering severe pain following a series of concerts in New Zealand.

A year earlier, he had undergone open heart surgery after suffering from a nasty bacterial infection.

“I had what is called a PICC line in my arm that delivers antibiotics from a portable bottle 24/7 for 6 weeks,” Barnes wrote Friday.

“It allowed me to leave the hospital and continue most of my recovery at home. It was both restrictive and liberating.

“This part of my recovery is now over and with the help of doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, family, friends, you and my Jane, everything is on track.

“Rehearsals with @coldchiselofficial this week have been a real bonus. I can even get behind the wheel again. Ah! FREEDOM.”

Barnes revealed in August that he experienced a “pain” in his hip while on tour, which quickly turned into unbearable pain, forcing him to seek emergency medical attention.

His doctors recommended immediate surgery followed by physical therapy.

His recent announcement has sparked an outpouring of support from fans, who have flooded social media with well wishes for the Scottish-born singer.

“Jimmy Barnes. He’s great when he’s great and he’s great when he recovers,” wrote one supporter.

“Good news Jimmy. Take care. Lots of love to you, Jane and your family,” posted another devoted fan.

“You are lucky. It seems like you have earned it the hard way. Lots of support and love get you across the finish line every time and you are blessed by it all. It is wonderful to see,” wrote another.
