Prince Williams visits Aberdeen to support homelessness charities

Prince William works to end homelessness and made a solo visit to Aberdeen, Scotland, to meet with charities and essential workers in the area.

Last year, the Prince of Wales launched Homewards, “a five-year grassroots programme that will demonstrate that together we can end homelessness: by making it rare, short and unique,” according to the Royal Foundation’s website.

Homewards has launched in six locations so far: Aberdeen in Scotland, Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole, Lambeth in London, Newport in Northern Ireland and Sheffield.

To continue the work of the important Royal Foundation of the Prince and Princess of Wales project, William travelled to Aberdeen on Thursday 19 September to meet with representatives of the Homewards Aberdeen Coalition.

He also attended a special “thank you” event honoring essential workers who have played a key role in addressing homelessness.

“I was offered an apartment and I went to see it,” one person told the prince during the visit.

“When I left, I cried like a weight had been lifted,” they say. “When I moved in, the first meal I had was beans on toast, and I can tell you it was the best beans on toast I’ve ever had.”

One person also told the Prince of Wales that “you don’t feel like a person” when you don’t have secure accommodation.

Prince William is said to have been focused and proactive and asked the individual: “How can we change this?”

At the thank you ceremony later in the day, Elaine Sutherland of Osprey Housing met the Prince and was very impressed by his commitment to the cause.

“Prince William was really positive, he seemed really interested in everything everyone was saying,” Sutherland said. The press and the newspaper.

Sutherland continued: “He was asking us what we were all doing and what other help could be given to help everyone.”

The Prince of Wales has repeatedly demonstrated his commitment to working with organisations dedicated to helping people who are homeless.

William launched the Homewards programme in Lambeth, London, in June 2023. During his visit, he visited Mosaic Clubhouse, an organisation dedicated to helping local people living with mental health issues who are at risk of homelessness.

Since stepping down from senior royal duties in January 2020, Prince Harry has found himself in a battle over the protection of his family in the UK. After losing his former state-funded security detail after moving from England to California, Harry filed for judicial review in January 2022 to fund protection for his own family when he visits the UK. “Over the next five years, I believe we have a unique opportunity to develop innovative new solutions and make a tangible impact,” William said at the launch, via the royal family’s official website.

He added: “This will inspire belief across the UK – and beyond – that homelessness can be ended for good.”
