Sunny spells and thunderstorms this week as temperatures cool

There will be sunny spells and showers

Heavy thundery showers are likely to spread across the country this evening, following a warm day when temperatures are expected to reach highs of 16 to 20 degrees.

Mist and fog will clear throughout the morning to allow clear spells to develop, although showers are expected in eastern parts of Leinster and Munster this evening.

Some could become severe with isolated thunderstorms possible as showers spread across Munster and Leinster and eastern and southern parts of Connacht and Ulster overnight.

Minimum temperatures of 8 to 13 degrees are expected.

Clear spells are expected on Sunday, but showers will return to Munster and Leinster as the day progresses.

Met Éireann is forecasting maximum temperatures of 15 to 19 degrees tomorrow, dropping to 7 to 12 degrees overnight.

Monday will be mostly dry with some sunny spells, interspersed with a few showers coming from the north.

Temperatures will reach highs of 14 to 18 degrees while Tuesday will see temperatures of 12 to 15 degrees amid a day of mixed sunny spells and scattered showers.

Wednesday also sees some isolated showers and sunnier spells as temperatures reach cooler highs of 10 to 13 degrees.

Heavy hail and isolated thunderstorms are expected on Thursday before cool conditions, clear spells and further showers are expected on Friday.
