St. Vincent Announces Spanish Version of Recent Album “All Born Screaming,” Shares “Hombre Roto”: Listen

A few months ago, St. Vincent released his busy new album All born screaming. Good record! Today, Annie Clark announced that she has re-recorded the entire album in Spanish. Clark says the decision was inspired by the warm reception she received when she performed to Spanish-speaking audiences, and she worked with her friend Alan Del Rio Ortiz to translate her lyrics. The resulting album is called All are born Gritandoand the first single “Hombre Roto” is literally “Broken Man,” but with the vocals in Spanish. Here’s what Clark has to say about it:

The origins of All are born Gritando The origins of this passion go back to some of the most memorable concerts I’ve ever played, in Mexico, South America, and recently at Primavera Barcelona in 2023. Although separated by time and geography, and in diverse contexts and locations, these crowds were united by their passion: singing every word of every song in perfect English. It was truly inspiring. Eventually, I asked myself: if they can sing in a second or third language, why can’t I join them halfway? So I asked my best friend and occasional collaborator Alan Del Rio Ortiz to work on translating these lyrics, tweaking them here and there for melodic reasons, doing my best to stay true to the song in question without sacrificing accuracy. After numerous rewrites and re-sings of every vocal track on the album, the result is All are born Gritandoequal parts labor of love and homage to the people who inspired it.
