1974 Champion St. Pat’s Fighting Irish Football Team Celebrates 50th Anniversary

1974 Champion St. Pat’s Fighting Irish Football Team Celebrates 50th Anniversary

The 1974 St. Patrick’s Fighting Irish football champions had their 50th birthday reunion last weekend in Sarnia.

The team received a fantastic Irish welcome at St. Pat’s on Friday morning, which included archival displays, refreshments and memorabilia.

Coaches Nick DiBrita, Jay Stewart, Mike Adams, Mike Browne, Joe Parizeau and Bennett Vanni made sure everyone felt at home in the “new” St. Pat’s. 1974 team captains Chris Curran and Ron Lakusiak addressed the current St. Pat’s senior team with words of encouragement emphasizing team loyalty and Irish tradition.

The reunion continued Friday night at the Refined Fool with a lively party for family and friends. Saturday’s events included a round of golf at the Sarnia Golf and Curling Club, followed by a team dinner.

By all accounts, the reunion weekend was a resounding success. Although the players have gone their separate ways over the past 50 years, it was striking to revisit the 1974 championship path.
