The Mathis Independent School District said there was no threat on any of its school campuses after law enforcement investigated a potentially threatening social media post that was shared among students.

The post was reported to “local authorities” and the San Patricio County Sheriff’s Office, Mathis School District Interim Superintendent Veronica Gutierrez said in a post shared on the school district’s Facebook page.

“No schools were named in the message, but we wanted to take every precaution and ensure there was no real threat to our staff and students,” Gutierrez wrote. “Law enforcement determined the message was a generic one that circulates in different communities.”

Gutierrez did not share details about the post on social media.

She encouraged parents to talk to their children about the need to immediately report threats to an adult and to immediately notify law enforcement and the school district.

Earlier this month, Kingsville police arrested two teenagers who threatened to commit shootings on Kingsville Independent School District campuses in separate incidents within a week.
