The Great Basin Complex 4 Incident Management Team assumed command of the Wapiti and Frog fires Thursday evening

GRANDJEAN, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — Highway 21 is now open to public traffic and drivers are advised to use caution between Lowman and Stanley. Personnel are working along the highway to continue to extinguish fires. Speeds will be reduced to 45 mph and headlights should be on while driving. Smoke and occasional flames will be visible in areas where the fire is smoldering. Debris and rocks may also be present along the roadway. Pilot cars may be in use, especially in areas where the Idaho Department of Transportation (ITD) is working to replace guardrails. An area closure remains in effect, affecting several roads leading to Highway 21; access is open at Boundary Creek.

The Wapiti Fire has expanded only slightly in size over the past seven days since heavy rains fell in the area. To the north, the fire is not contained near Copper Mountain, but has not grown since receiving rain and snow earlier in the week. On the southern edge, the fire has burned in extremely steep and inaccessible terrain, where natural features such as rock barriers limit its spread.

Firefighters worked to remove hoses and other equipment from the Frog Fire that had been placed near properties for fire defense as the likelihood of further fire spread to homes decreased. The primary fire camp location for the Frog Fire is near Yankee Fork.

Stanley Zone 1 Evacuation Status is currently READY. Stanley Zones 2-5 and the Casino are no longer in an evacuation status. There are currently no evacuations related to the Frog Fire.
