Frank Lloyd Wright-Inspired Home Is Making MCM World a Splash, Listed for .8 Million in Edina

It has the complete look of a traditional mid-century modern home, from the large windows offering expansive panoramic views of Lake Cornelia to the kitchen cabinets that have their original built-ins.

The Edina home has become an internet sensation, praised for its Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired architecture. The popular Instagram account Zillow Gone Wild, which showcases homes from around the country, recently posted photos of the home to its 2 million followers.

“We’ve never said this before, but here’s a near perfect MCM in Edina, MN,” the post said. “FLW inspired (obviously) with a grand entryway and maybe my favorite thing is the mirror in the closet??? We didn’t know that was an option.”

Circa Old Homes, a Facebook account that hosts tours of historic homes, called it a “modern masterpiece.” More than 100 people have already toured the property, said real estate agent Mel Emery. She said she arranged a tour with a building preservation group and people were impressed by the home’s character.

“I think people feel a lot of nostalgia when they see this house,” she said. “A lot of people remember seeing houses with real wood paneling and watching TV shows, like The Brady Bunch, that had that look.”

Because the four-bedroom, five-bathroom home was custom-built in 1960, it exudes a mid-century modern vibe with plenty of large windows that blend the interior with nature, minimalist design and clean, sleek lines visible throughout the interior and exterior, she said.

At 6,315 square feet, the home is also unusually large for a mid-century modern home. Other highlights include an elevator, a basement in-law suite, and a large deck.

“Compared to other mid-century modern homes, this one is on a whole different caliber,” she said. “I would describe it as a time capsule because of its originality.”
