HOUSTON, Texas (KWTX) – Houston police have arrested three suspects after an officer was shot and killed around 9:50 a.m. on Sept. 17, according to a news release from the city of Houston.

Shooter Raymond Perez, 35, is charged with aggravated assault on a public servant, aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon and unlawful carrying of a weapon.

The other two suspects, Michael Perez, 38, and Brian A. Garcia Chavez, 18, are charged with aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon.

According to police, officers responded to a home invasion in progress in the 7100 block of Alderney Drive. Upon arrival, officers confronted two of the suspects inside the home. While one of the suspects was taken into custody, later identified as Michael Perez, the other allegedly came out of a room in the back of the home and began shooting at officers before fleeing the scene on foot. The third suspect, who was waiting in a vehicle, also fled the scene.

During the shooting, Officer S. Durfee was shot in the leg and was later taken to Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center for treatment.

The second suspect in the home, identified as Raymond Perez, was found about a block from the scene and taken into custody without incident. The third suspect, identified as Chavez, was found a few hours later in the 5800 block of Hollister Road and was also taken into custody without incident.

Further investigation is being conducted by the Houston Police Department’s Special Investigations Unit, Internal Affairs Division and the Harris County District Attorney’s Office as a precautionary measure regarding police-involved shooting incidents that have occurred within the Houston city limits.
