Charlotte Maxeke Hospital recovers from severe water shortage

Water supply has been restored to Charlotte Maxeke Hospital in Johannesburg after a severe shortage disrupted operations and forced the cancellation of non-urgent surgeries.

The crisis, which left patients and staff struggling with hygiene issues, has been eased.

The Gauteng Department of Health has confirmed that the water supply has returned to normal. The main reservoir, now 50% full, is regularly distributing water throughout the hospital. This follows the intervention of Johannesburg Water, which provided seven additional tankers to supplement the four already deployed by the department.

Previous reports have highlighted the impact of the shortage, with non-urgent procedures being halted and new patients being refused admission.
