Keith Urban Gives Update on Nicole Kidman After Her Mother’s Death

Keith Urban has given fans an update on his wife Nicole Kidman, who said she was “heartbroken” when she announced her mother’s unexpected death earlier this month.

“Yeah, everybody’s doing great, man. Thanks for asking,” the 56-year-old country singer told The Times in an interview published Friday.

He has not commented further on the death of his mother-in-law, Janelle.

Kidman, 57, had just arrived at the Venice Film Festival on September 7 when she learned that her mother had died and that she had left early.

Halina Reijn, the director of the film “Babygirl,” read a handwritten note from Kidman — who won best actress for her performance in the film — during her scheduled appearance.

“I arrived in Venice today and shortly after learned that my beautiful and courageous mother Janelle Ann Kidman has passed away,” the letter reads. “I am in shock and need to be back with my family, but this award is for her.”

“She shaped me, she guided me and she made me,” the “Moulin Rouge” actress continued. “I am beyond grateful to be able to speak her name in front of you all through Halina.”

“The collision between life and art is heartbreaking, and my heart is broken.”

A rep for Kidman also confirmed the news to Page Six, saying, “The family is heartbroken and asks for privacy at this time.”

On September 13, the Oscar-winning actress and her sister Antonia shared a message of gratitude to their fans regarding their condolences.

“My sister and I, along with our family, want to thank you for the outpouring of love and kindness we have felt this week,” Kidman wrote alongside vintage photos of their mother.

“Every message we have received from those who loved and admired our Mother has meant more to us than we can ever express.”

It is unclear exactly how Janelle, who was 84, died.

However, Kidman hinted that she was facing health issues during a January 2022 appearance on NPR’s “Fresh Air” podcast.

“We are here (in Australia) mainly to look after my mother and to have her surrounded by her grandchildren,” she said.

“Luckily, yesterday, even though the Omicron strain (COVID-19) is raging in this country, we were able to take him to the gallery after hours and show him the Matisse exhibit, which, coming from a mother who raised me in the arts, was very, very, it was a soothing balm.”

In 2020, Kidman said she missed her mother’s 80th birthday due to the pandemic, but was happy to reunite with her in August of that year.
