Janet Jackson should check the news a little more often. In an interview with The GuardianJackson told writer Nosheen Iqbal that she was “told” that presidential candidate and current Vice President Kamala Harris is not black, though that claim is clearly false. “Well, you know what they would have said?” Jackson told the reporter. “She’s not black. That’s what I heard. That she’s Indian.” The reporter countered by telling Jackson that Harris has dual heritage. She then explained that there is evidence that Harris’ father is Donald J. Harris, a well-known Jamaican economist who works at Stanford. Jackson continued, “Her father is white. That’s what I’ve been told. I mean, I haven’t watched the news in a couple of days. I’m told they found out her father is white.” Vulture has reached out to Jackson’s representatives for further comment.

As for the election as a whole, Jackson doesn’t feel very optimistic. She later said The Guardian, “I honestly don’t want to answer that question because I really don’t know. I think one way or another it’s going to be chaos,” when asked if she thinks America would be ready for Kamala Harris if she were elected president. Maybe one of Jackson’s friends could check in on her, preferably from a verified news source. Beyoncé, are you free?
