At least 4 dead, 20 injured in Alabama shooting; suspect(s) still at large

At least four people have been killed and more than 20 injured in Birmingham, Alabama, after several suspected gunmen opened fire in a nightlife district of the US city.

According to reports from AP And AFPThe incident took place after 11 p.m. Saturday night, when several people were found shot to death on 20th Street near Magnolia Avenue in Birmingham’s Five Points South neighborhood.

Three victims were pronounced dead at the scene while a fourth person was pronounced dead at the University of Alabama Hospital in Birmingham.

The area where the shooting took place is a bustling nightlife area, with many entertainment venues, restaurants and bars, and attracts large crowds on weekends.

At the time of writing, no arrests have been made in the case, and reports suggest that police suspect multiple shooters were involved.

Several U.S. agencies are involved in the investigation, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

The area where the mass shooting took place has also been cordoned off.

The United States is no stranger to mass shootings, defined as shootings involving at least four victims (dead or injured), and has seen at least 403 such incidents this year alone, according to the Gun Violence Archive (GVA).

According to GVA, at least 12,416 people have been killed by gun violence this year in the United States.
