A cat that got lost in Yellowstone National Park traveled more than 900 miles to return home after two months, with the help of the pet’s microchip, an animal welfare organization said.

Rayne Beau is a 2 1/2-year-old seal point mitted Siamese. His owners, Susanne and Benny Anguiano of Salinas, California, were visiting the Wyoming park when he wandered off, Susanne told CNN.

The recently relocated cat, whose name is pronounced “rainbow,” went missing on the first day of their trip to Fishing Bridge RV Park on June 4, Anguiano said.

“My husband is my hero because he would go into the woods for hours every day looking for her,” Anguiano told CNN affiliate KSBW this week.

Rayne Beau ran into the woods after being surprised, and the couple’s attempts to bring him back with his favorite treats and toys failed, KSBW reported.

“We had to leave without him,” Anguiano told KSBW. “That was the hardest day because I felt like I was abandoning him.”

The heartbroken pet owner said she never gave up hope of finding her missing pet, according to KSBW. However, they adopted another cat a month after Rayne Beau disappeared to keep her sister company, Anguiano told CNN.

According to Anguiano, the couple rescued Rayne Beau and her twin sister Starr when they were 11 weeks old.

Then, 61 days after Rayne Beau went missing, the couple received a notification about the whereabouts of a cat with Rayne Beau’s ID number, KSBW reported.

Rayne Beau was found in Roseville, California, about 200 miles from his home in Salinas. He was later taken to the Placer Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in Roseville, the society’s executive director, Leilani Fratis, confirmed in an email to CNN.

“We hope everyone will see the benefits of microchipping their pets,” Fratis said.

The cat was found in poor health by the woman who reported it, KSBW reported.

“We were in contact with the woman who found him in Roseville and took him in for a few nights before we were able to bring him to the SPCA,” Anguiano told CNN.

In total, the cat traveled more than 1,000 miles from Wyoming to Roseville and then on to Salinas, California.

The couple said they don’t know how Rayne Beau made it back to California, but are grateful he’s back home.

“We’re so happy to have him back,” Anguiano said. “I look at him every day and I’m so grateful. I say, ‘Do you know how many weeks I’ve spent praying to see that face again?’”
