Former Clifton High School principal Joe Bryan, who spent more than 30 years in prison, has died, his lawyer confirms

WACO, Texas (KWTX) – Former Clifton High School principal Joe D. Bryan, convicted of murdering his wife Mickey Bryan in 1985, has died, his attorney Walter M. Reaves confirmed.

The cause of death has not been confirmed.

Bryan was sentenced to 99 years in prison after being convicted in the death of his wife, a Clifton elementary school teacher.

Bryan’s first conviction was overturned and he was convicted again after a retrial.

After spending more than three decades in prison, Bryan was granted parole due to his declining health in 2020.

Throughout the investigation and after his conviction, Bryan maintained his innocence.
