Duluth City Council to consider renewing funding for crisis teams at meeting

The Duluth City Council continues the process of reviewing the city’s budget for the upcoming year.

At the Sept. 23 council meeting, members will consider restoring $600,000 in funding for the HDC Crisis Response Team, which was initially cut from the mayor’s initial budget proposal.

Crisis teams are made up of trained community members who respond to people in crisis in situations where law enforcement presence may not be necessary.

Although funding was initially cut from the budget, several city councilors have been working on ways to restore funding for the 2025 budget year. The proposal was part of Mayor Roger Reiner’s plan to ease the city’s budget in order to ease the tax burden on Duluth residents.

In a message to councilors, the mayor said he supported seeking funds to finance the crisis response team.

The city council meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at City Hall.
