Popular country-rock band cancels tour as frontman enters treatment

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Famed country-rock band The Cadillac Three is on hiatus while frontman Jaren Johnston seeks treatment for mental health issues.

The band, known for their Billboard Country Airplay Top 40 hit “The South,” shared the news of the cancellation in an Instagram post after canceling their September 17 shows.

“Friends, we want to be honest with you,” the Nashville-based band said in a post on September 20. “Jaren has been seeking treatment for his mental health and well-being.”

The past few years have been difficult on many levels for Johnston, whose father died in 2022 from COVID-19 pneumonia after spending nearly two weeks hospitalized with the virus, according to an Instagram post. He was 65.

His death led the group to urge people to get vaccinated.

“And if you’re reading this and you have someone in your life who doesn’t want to get vaccinated for whatever reason, I’ll tell you this… My dad chose not to get vaccinated and would have had a chance at life if he had. My Superman fell in 3 weeks. This virus is not a political joke. It’s real. It’s scary. And it’s blown a 7-foot hole in so many people’s lives, including mine. I’m not sure I’ll ever recover,” Johnston wrote on Instagram in 2022.

The band thanked fans for their support and respect after announcing the tour’s cancellation.

“We love our fans and the community we’ve built together,” the Instagram post reads. “Cancelling shows is not something we take lightly. We are confident that we will be back on the road.”
