9-1-1: Lone Star is a spin-off of 9-1-1, which ran for six seasons on Fox until its cancellation, but was rescued by ABC in 2023 and is now in its eighth season.

The surprise cancellation comes as Fox moves away from scripted dramas with the final episodes of 9-1-1: Lone Star set to air weekly starting yesterday (September 25) through early 2025.

However, fans are desperately hoping that season 5 will not be the last of the series.

To protest the cancellation of Lone Star, fans have started an online petition, which currently has over 3,000 signatures. Some fans are also hoping that ABC will pick up the series like they did with 9-1-1.

Taking to X, formerly Twitter, one fan pleaded: “ABC we are BEGGING you to make up for the cancellation of Station19… Please save 9-1-1: Lone Star like you saved 9-1-1!!”

While another pleaded: “Come on guys, you’ve already saved 9-1-1, now you need to save 9-1-1: Lone Star is a wonderfully awesome show that doesn’t need to end. You saved one, now save the other.”

However, that option has been all but dismissed by outlets like Deadline, who were the first to report Lone Star’s cancellation, leaving fans to direct their requests to other streaming services like Netflix, which could provide a lifeline for the drama.

Pleading with the streamer, one fan wrote: “Netflix, you saved Manifest, please save 9-1-1: Lone Star!!!!!!”

“Hey Netflix, here comes season 6 of 9-1-1: Lone Star,” another added.

Although Lone Star’s fate currently hangs in the balance, its return could be possible, as Netflix has a history of rescuing and reviving canceled series like Lucifer, Manifest, and You.

But for now, all viewers can count on is that Season 5 will be dramatic.

After announcing the cancellation, Fox TV Network president Michael Thorn said, “Now in our final season, we’re ready to give her the high-stakes sendoff she deserves, with breathtaking rescues, insurmountable obstacles and relatable personal struggles, courtesy of our incomparable and stellar cast led by Rob Lowe and Gina Torres.”

Rob plays Captain Owen Strand, a New York City firefighter who, along with his adult son, TK (Ronen Rubinstein), moves to Austin to rebuild a fire station that has itself suffered tragedy.

Strand’s new crew includes Captain Tommy Vega (Gina Torres), Judd Ryder (Jim Parrack), Marjan Marwani (Natacha Karam), Paul Strickland (Brian Michael Smith) and rookie firefighter Mateo Chavez (Julian Works). Rafael Silva and Brianna Baker also star.

In the upcoming fifth season, Captains Strand and Vega, along with Team 126, leap into action when, in a multi-episode opening storyline, a catastrophic train derailment puts several lives in danger, including some of their own.

9-1-1: Lone Star is created and executive produced by Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Tim Minear.

Bradley Buecker, who directed the series premiere, also serves as executive producer alongside Rashad Raisani, John J. Gray, Angela Bassett, Lowe, Carly Soteras and Wolfe Coleman.

In an interview with TVLine, Rashad Raisani said he “knew it was going to be an uphill battle to get past Season 5 and there was a good chance it would be.”

“We’re giving each of these characters a nice send-off, but we’re also leaving the door open for stories, so it feels like there’s a lot more to explore in depth,” Raisani added, fueling hope that Lone Star could return in some capacity.
