SK hynix Announces Availability of CXL SDK on Linux – High Performance Computing News Analysis

SEOUL, September 23, 2024 – SK hynix Inc. today announced that features of its Heterogeneous Memory Software Development Kit (HMSDK) for optimizing Compute Express Link memory technology are now available on Linux.

SK hynix said HMSDK improves memory package bandwidth by more than 30 percent without changing existing applications by selectively allocating memory based on bandwidth between existing memory and expanded CXL memory. In addition, the software improves performance by more than 12 percent over conventional systems through frequency-based optimization, a feature that moves frequently accessed data to faster memory.

The semiconductor industry expects full commercialization of CXL in the second half of 2024, coinciding with the release of the first server processors with the “CXL 2.0” specification. In anticipation of this date, SK hynix is currently validating CXL 2.0 memory in capacities of 96 GB and 128 GB with customers. The company plans to begin mass production by the end of the year.

“For the development and dissemination of AI systems such as large language models, it is now necessary to significantly improve not only semiconductors but also the level of system applications to support them,” said Youngpyo Joo, Head of Software Solutions at SK hynix. “With this Linux integration and collaboration, we will strive to enhance our status as a complete AI memory solution provider by innovating technologies and expanding the ecosystem in this field.”
