New Britain Mayor Announces She Won't Run for 7th Term

NEW BRITAIN, CT (WFSB) – New Britain Mayor Erin Stewart announced Tuesday that she will not seek a seventh term.

Stewart held a press conference Tuesday morning after posting his announcement on social media.

She has been mayor of New Britain for more than a decade.

“After 12 years, it is time for new leadership to come forward to write the next volume of New Britain,” she said. “And it is time for me to move on to the next chapter of my life.”

The next municipal elections will take place in November 2025.

“This will be the first time in 15 years that you won’t see my name on a municipal ballot,” Stewart said. “This is an incredibly difficult decision for me to make.”

Stewart thanked the citizens of New Britain for their continued support.

She said she wasn’t sure what the future held for her.

“Maybe I’ll run for higher office, maybe I’ll go into the private sector,” she said.
