  • Son of Trump’s failed assassin arrested for discovering obscene images of children

Oran Routh, the son of Ryan Wesley Routh, the man suspected of attempting to assassinate former President Donald Trump, has been arrested on federal charges related to child sexual abuse images. The arrest came after Oran’s home in Greensboro, North Carolina, was raided as part of an unrelated investigation. However, what authorities discovered during the raid quickly shifted the focus of the investigation to a much darker subject.

According to court documents, FBI investigators discovered hundreds of files depicting child sexual abuse on several electronic devices seized from Oran’s home. These deeply disturbing findings led to his immediate arrest, and he now faces two serious federal charges: possession and receipt of child sexual abuse material. Oran Routh’s arrest, so soon after the shocking allegations against his father, added another layer of scandal to an already infamous family.

Oran’s father, Ryan Wesley Routh, made headlines earlier this month when he was accused of attempting to assassinate Trump on a Florida golf course. Routh currently faces federal gun charges, but prosecutors have signaled that more serious charges related to the attempted assassination are on the horizon. The overlap of these two criminal cases involving father and son has captivated the public, leading many to wonder about the broader implications of this family’s collapse.

The search that led to Oran Routh’s arrest was not initially related to child exploitation. Law enforcement has been vague about the initial reason for the investigation, saying only that it was “not related to child exploitation.” Whatever reason authorities were looking for when they arrived at Oran’s home, the discovery of child sexual abuse images derailed their initial investigation. Court documents detailing the charges have shed little light on Oran’s defense, and no attorney has been appointed to represent him to date. Family members have also remained silent, with phone calls to relatives going unanswered.

This latest development is a blow to a family already in the spotlight. The alleged assassination attempt on Ryan Routh had already thrust Routh’s name into the spotlight, but the nature of the charges against Oran, among the most heinous in the justice system, has left the public reeling.

The arrest was first reported by ABC News, and the scandal is likely to dominate headlines as the two Routh men await their fate in separate but equally shocking cases. While the planned assassination of Ryan Wesley Routh threatens to have serious national security implications, the child pornography charges against Oran are likely to lead to lengthy legal battles, with devastating personal consequences.
