BASIS America Desk Stakeholder Meeting Held to Develop ICT Activities

DHAKA, September 24, 2024 (BSS) – Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) today organized the ‘BASIS America Desk Stakeholders’ Meet’ with the aim of expanding and strengthening ICT business relations between Bangladesh and the United States.

He also emphasized on strengthening trade and technology relations between Bangladesh and the US through mutual cooperation, a press release said.

Acting Chief of the Economic Unit of the US Embassy in Dhaka James Gardiner, US Embassy Commercial Counselor John Fay, BASIS President Russell T Ahmed, Senior Vice President M Rashidul Hasan, Vice President (Finance) Iqbal Ahmed Fakhrul Hasan, Directors Mir Shahrukh Islam, Biplob Ghosh Rahul, BASIS America Desk President Noor Mahmud Khan and more than 70 BASIS America Desk members attended the meeting held at the BASIS auditorium, a BASIS press release said.

BASIS Vice President (Administration) Syed Mohammad Kamal chaired the meeting.


James Gardiner highlighted the key objectives of ‘Bangladesh 2.0’ which aim to achieve deeper integration into the global economy.

He stressed the importance of strengthening cybersecurity infrastructure, ensuring appropriate regulatory policies and fostering a business-friendly environment to attract international investment.

Gardiner also stressed the need for greater government engagement, urging Bangladesh to lead by example, including by cracking down on the use of pirated software.

John Fay reaffirmed the U.S. Embassy’s commitment to strengthening commercial relationships and assured participants that the Embassy would facilitate connections in a variety of ways.

Russell T Ahmed said that the US is the largest market for Bangladesh’s IT sector and this market will grow further in future.

“There is significant potential to attract foreign direct investment (FDI) and create more opportunities through joint ventures,” he added.
