Phillies owner sent rude message to team after winning NL East

The Philadelphia Phillies beat the Chicago Cubs 6-2 on Monday to clinch the National League East title and their third straight playoff berth. With less than a week left in the regular season, they have a chance to finish with the best record in baseball and nearly clinch a first-round bye in the playoffs.

Suffice to say, the Phillies are in prime position to make the World Series, which they recently lost in 2022. That’s what Phillies owner John Middleton is focusing on as the team celebrated securing its playoff spot after Monday’s game.

Manager Rob Thomson put his arm around Middleton during his postgame locker room celebration speech and reminded the players that during spring training, the owner said he wanted his trophy back. To which Middleton responded, “I want my f***ing trophy back!”

Middleton first bought the Phillies in 1994. They have been to the World Series three times since he joined, winning once in 2008.
