Brett Favre’s Honest Message After Revealing His Parkinson’s Diagnosis

Former Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre revealed during his testimony before Congress that he has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. Favre then took to social media to express his gratitude to his fans and supporters, and to thank God for the blessings he has received in his life.

“First of all, I want to thank God for everything he has done in my life. Secondly, thank you to Congress for giving me the opportunity to discuss much needed TANF reform. As you know, I was recently diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, which has been a struggle. My wife, family and friends have been supportive and I want to thank them for being there for me. To my fans and well wishers, thank you all for your love. 🙏”

Favre’s testimony before the House Committee on Means and Ways comes as part of a congressional hearing on federal welfare reform. As Front Office Sports’ AJ Perez pointed out, Favre was trying to highlight a lack of oversight.

“Favre’s testimony before the House Ways and Means Committee focused on the need for “safeguards” in distributing Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) funds – about $8 million of which went to Favre himself, a volleyball stadium at his alma mater and a pharmaceutical company he backed.”

Favre has not been criminally charged.

Favre is accused of lobbying for Mississippi TANF funds to be used to directly fund the University of Southern Mississippi Athletic Foundation to pay for the construction of a volleyball center.

“I wanted to help my alma mater and benefit the community,” Favre told Congress. “Southern Miss introduced me to the nonprofit to see if they could help with the funding. I had no way of knowing there was anything wrong with the way the state was funding the project, especially since it had been publicly endorsed by multiple state agencies and multiple attorneys, including the attorney general.”

“Unfortunately, I also lost my investment in a company that I believed was developing a breakthrough concussion drug that I believed would help other people,” Favre said at the House hearing Tuesday. “As I’m sure you can appreciate, while it’s too late for me — I was recently diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease — this is also a cause that is very close to my heart. Recently, the doctor who runs the company pleaded guilty to taking TANF money for his own use.”

Favre has been named as a defendant in a lawsuit filed by the Mississippi Department of Human Services, which is seeking to recover $90 million in illegally spent TANF funds.
