This Morning’s Martin Lewis opens up about ‘brutal’ family loss in emotional message

This morningMartin Lewis has spoken of the “brutal” loss of his mother in an emotional TV appearance.

The Founder and Money Saving Expert Martin Lewis’ Money Show The presenter appeared on yesterday’s (September 24) edition of the ITV show, speaking with Ben Shephard, Cat Deeley, Annabel Croft and Agony Aunt Deirdre about grief.

Martin spoke about the recent anniversary of his mother’s death and how he still struggles with it.

“It’s 40 years this year since my mother was killed and it still hurts 40 years later,” he said, visibly moved. “The one thing I always think about, because I was in tears on the anniversary this year, is not to feel guilty for being happy.”

“When people are grieving, they have a moment of happiness, feel guilty, and stop. The thing is, any chance you have to feel happy while grieving, take it.”

Martin apologized for getting upset and said he wasn’t on the show to talk about it, as Ben comforted him and said his advice could be very helpful to anyone else who has lost a parent at a young age.

Last February, Martin welcomed This morning for a week, after telling producers that introducing him was on his to-do list.

He insisted it was just a one-off event, which is consistent with what he said last year when it was announced he would be the permanent host following the departures of Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby.

This morning airs weekdays on ITV from 10am, while episodes of The Martin Lewis Money Show can be watched via ITVX.
