They got to the heart of the matter.

A woman suffered a great loss this week after she was arrested while smuggling more than 700 pounds of illegal bologna across the U.S.-Mexico border into Texas.

The 43-year-old woman, a U.S. citizen, attempted to enter the country at the Presidio port of entry from Mexico on Monday afternoon despite only reporting a cooked meal during primary inspection, according to customs and border protection.

CBP agricultural specialists called her an idiot and conducted a secondary inspection of the car, finding several suitcases filled with 40 rolls – 748 pounds – of Mexican bologna, a banned meat that poses a threat to the U.S. pork industry , officials said.

“The problem with pork products is that they have the potential to introduce foreign animal diseases that can have devastating effects on the U.S. economy and our agricultural industry,” said Benito Reyes, Jr., CBP Presidio Port Director, in a press release.

The meat was then confiscated and destroyed.

Officers continued their search of the vehicle and confiscated 280 boxes of undeclared prescription drugs hidden in various panels of the car as well as more than $7,600 in concealed currency, authorities said.

The vehicle was also seized and the driver was assessed a $1,000 civil penalty, authorities said.

“Even if they think an item is allowed, travelers must declare all items they are transporting into the United States to avoid fines and penalties,” Reyes said.
