HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Hawaii Island Police have identified the man whose body was found in the waters of Boiling Pots in Hilo.

Authorities said the victim was Stanley Walker II, 42, of Pensacola, Florida.

On Tuesday, an autopsy determined the cause of death to be drowning. Officials said the investigation continues while awaiting the results of the toxicology report.

Police said the incident occurred on September 17, shortly after 1:30 p.m., when South Hilo patrol officers responded to a swimmer in distress.

Witnesses told police they saw a man enter the water and immediately be pulled under the rapids. He did not resurface and witnesses said they lost sight of him.

Rescue personnel from the Hawaii Fire Department and the state DLNR Division of Conservation and Resource Enforcement also responded to the scene and began searching the area. Extensive searches were conducted, but the victim could not be located.

Two days later, the fire rescue team was able to locate and remove the man’s body 30 feet below the surface of one of the pools.

The victim was transported to Hilo Benioff Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
