Maine murder suspect led officers on high-speed chase in Pittsfield, DA says

A Bangor man was held without bail Friday after the Berkshire County District Attorney’s Office said he was involved in a high-speed chase following the killing of a 39-year-old woman in Maine.

The Bangor Police Department in Maine found Virginia Cookson, 39, of Bangor, dead in her residence on September 25, according to a prosecutor’s statement.

Two days later, the chief medical examiner’s office in Augusta, Maine, ruled the death a homicide, leading to an arrest warrant for Richard Keith Thorpe, 42 of Bangor.
